The early bird…

Perhaps the humble beginings of an airport parking empire?

Perhaps the humble beginnings of a Shoestring airport parking empire?

One of those supposed perks of being ‘self employed’ (for want of a better term) is that you don’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn and trawl into the office. It is a great advantage, being able to get from bed to desk in the matter of about 30 seconds is hard to argue with. So, why then was the Shoestring Investor up and going at 4:30am this morning?

Simple: there was money to be made! Never one to intentionally miss an opportunity to make a few pounds, this is perhaps one of my most unusual sources of income.

I had a few friends who had a flight this morning, and knowing I lived near the airport they got in touch a few days ago to see if they could leave their car at my house and save themselves a few quid on the airport parking. I was happy to oblige, as the offer involved a small reward for my troubles. The catch was the time of the flight, but beggars can’t be choosers when it comes to growing ‘the stash’, so I was up bright and early to monopolise on the opportunity.

It’s a win, win really. They get to save some money, I get to make some money and to top it all off it comes with the satisfaction of doing someone a bit of a favour.

That is the story of how I managed to be £20 up for the day by 4:30am. Whilst I’m not sure I want to make a habit of it, there can’t be too many people who can claim that!

I’m very impressed with this blog – good to see someone who’s not waiting around to be given work but who is creating opportunities himself. I don’t know if you’re interested in this kind of thing (and please feel free to delete if you consider this spam) but I’ve published a couple of Amazon Kindle e-books on money saving (‘A Treasury of Thrift’ and ‘Frontier Frugal’)that you and/or your readers might find of interest. Great site and keep up the good work!

I’m really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a nice blog like this one these days….
