Week 15

Week 15 see's me make good moneyWhen writing my update for last week, I wasn’t exactly sure how this one would turn out. I didn’t have a huge amount lined up, so I was somewhat cautious in my predicted earnings. As it turns out, I needn’t have been so timid. Week 15 went very well, and actually turned out to be one of my biggest weeks so far in terms of earnings.

There are four main causes of the good total this week. The first of these is that a fairly large sum of long awaited cashback finally tracked from Quidco, following a support ticket being raised by me a while ago. This is the nature of Cashback, sometimes it won’t track automatically, but both Quidco and TopCashBack allow you to put in a manual claim in these instances, and I must say the majority of times they pay out.

The second was that mystery shopping went into overdrive. I got calls from a couple of different companies that had urgent assignments that needed doing asking if I was available. Because they were in such desperate need, I was able to negotiate very good rates of pay. This meant that I didn’t spend as much time on it as you might think when you see the £140 figure, but just got very well paid assignments.

The third is that I landed a little half day job doing some exit surveys at an electronics store. Basically I had to get 25 responses to a short survey about people’s experience in the store. It’s certainly not the worlds most interesting work, but neither is it particularly difficult. It was fairly well paid at £50, and took me around about 3.5 hours. The goal of The Shoestring Investor was hardly to pick up small jobs like this here and there, but they are a necessary step in supplementing other projects and building up enough money to be able to undertake more interesting activities.

The fourth is the coin jar, which provided a larger bounty than expected. To avoid repeating myself, you can read more about that here.

Brand new Nike Tiempro footballs, multiple colours

Our new selection of footballs puts skittles to shame

Other than this, there are a few small contributions, but nothing particularly noteworthy. Saturday Night Football continues to be going well, although this week I reinvested some of the profit back in, thus just about broke even this week, with £30 for pitch hire and £15 for some brand spanking new Nike Tiempo footballs. They were excellent value, and were very nice to play with, especially considering the price (I got them from Newitts, who I must say were very good value – free delivery came within two days also). I purchased four, but split the cost with a family member who also wanted in on them.

In Summary:

Slightly over what I had expected, due to the unforeseen, but welcome occurrences I’ve mentioned. Happily, my tracker fund has finally stopped the rot. It’s still in net loss, but it’s nice to see it contributing to, rather than taking from, my week’s earnings again. A good week in terms of earnings, and also an exciting prospect coming up with a potential client that would be my biggest single income so far if all goes well. Exciting times ahead it appears.

The Week Ahead:

It’s a tricky one to call. I have no solid big earners lined up, but have some things that should come to fruition. I will really be looking at ways to secure bigger totals in future weeks as well. If I’m going to get near my target I need to be getting an ongoing, relatively steady, big income and despite some efforts, nothing of this sort has come to fruition yet. Despite focusing efforts on that, I still hope to make at least £250 in week 16 – as important as planning for future weeks is, it’s no good if I’m not at least still bringing in something to avoid getting cut adrift completely from my end goal.

Writers Note: I had thought I published this on Tuesday, obviously I forgot to actually get it live. Apologies to those who were wondering why it is so late!
